Last year the trend of tabletop PC started strong but then eventually it seemed to turn cold as it was badly straddled between a desktop and giant tablet. Luckily, Lenovo’s new models are apparently set to give this semi-portable device a second chance to prove its mettle.
The slim Lenovo Horizon series has brought a good balance between screen size and portability. So far, it has been split in to two models: a slim device with a premium feel and the one with the bigger body and lower price. Horizon 2s has kickstand features. Being a light weight model, this tabletop weighs around 5.6 pounds with a 19.5-inch 1080p IPS display.
Its processors go up to Intel Gen i7, with up to 500GB of hybrid hard drive space, and its in-built battery can run up to 2.5 hours. But yes, these systems are so built so as not to stay away from the power source for too long.
Another one in the Horizon series, Horizon 2e is a bigger, thicker, tabletop PC with a 21.5-inch 1080p display. It has an inbuilt kickstand and is less portable. But its heavier body leaves much scope for bigger battery, which usually runs up to 3.5 hours.
Both these new Horizon models come with Lenovo’s Aura software package, which is a user interface overlay that automatically pops up whenever the system is positioned flat on a surface. Aura makes use of multitouch controls to provide access to photos, videos and apps. However, you can turn it off if you prefer a regular Windows 8 user interface.
Priced at $949, Horizon 2s will be available later this September, with a charging stand worth $89. Horizon 2e will come in October, priced at $749.
